Eduardo Rodriguez signs $80 million with NL champion Diamondbacks

Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, who was a free agent, signed a four-year contract worth $80 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He chose this deal after deciding not to continue with the Detroit Tigers.

The person spoke to Bob Nightengale from USA TODAY Sports anonymously because the signing wasn't official yet.

The left-handed pitcher joins the National League champions' group of starting pitchers, which already includes Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly.

The Tigers signed Rodriguez for $77 million for five years in 2022.

They also added Baez as a shortstop for $140 million during the same winter.

He did well for the Tigers, with a 3.58 ERA in 43 starts. However, he missed half of his first season in Detroit.

Rodriguez started playing for the Red Sox when he was 22 years old in 2015.
