Ex-star Calls For More Credit For 'forgotten' One In Coco Gauff's Summer Success

BY Robert j. matthews

Andrea Petkovic, a former world No 9, thinks Pere Riba should have received more recognition for Coco Gauff's successful performance on hard courts this summer.

Gauff hired Brad Gilbert, who used to coach Andre Agassi, after her disappointing first-round exit at Wimbledon.

At that time, Gauff was also working with Riba, the coach she hired before Wimbledon.

Gauff did not do well at Wimbledon, but she did very well during the North American hardcourt swing. Gauff won the US Open and a WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati during the summer on hard courts.

Gauff won a tennis tournament in Washington and made it to the quarterfinals in Montreal.

Gauff won 18 out of 19 matches on the North American hard courts.

Coach Gilbert received most of the credit for Gauff's impressive recovery after Wimbledon.

Petkovic thinks Gilbert is a great coach, but Riba also played a big role in helping Gauff.
