Fighting Irish LG Pat Coogan Always Believed in Himself
Billy Schrauth was expected to be Notre Dame's starting left guard nine months ago.
Coogan believed in himself when he knew there were two spots at right and left guard.
Coach Freeman and his staff encouraged competition, so Coogan played at left guard during spring ball.
Schrauth led after the 2023 Blue-Gold Game, but Coogan persevered. He worked on getting stronger to improve his ability to defend.
Starts in the weight room. I focused on getting stronger. Had a great offseason program from Jan-Mar. Spring ball was great. I played center and guard.
Coogan impressed during fall camp, earning more reps with the first-team offensive line due to his consistency and technical skills.
